Michelle Rush
Michelle Rush
is a facilitator and consultant specialising in public participation
and community engagement. She has a background in natural resource
management. Michelle has an academic and practical knowledge of change
management processes, particularly in rural development. Michelle
has more than 14 years’ experience as a professional facilitator
working with the private, public and voluntary sectors. Michelle has
delivered training courses on how to work effectively with the
community in conservation and environmental education throughout New
Zealand. She has been involved in the delivery of facilitation training
in both Australia and New Zealand. Michelle is an accredited trainer
for Technology of Participation Facilitation Methods (Institute of
Cultural Affairs, Australia).
Helen Ritchie
Helen Ritchie
is a facilitator and researcher with significant experience in
community and environmental projects. Her doctoral study was an action
research project about engaging rural communities in environmental
management (Landcare groups). She has been involved in the design
and delivery of facilitation training for community members, local and
central government staff, and the Enviroschools programme. Her
own facilitation practice includes work for local, regional and central
government as well as community groups, assisting with strategic
planning, community involvement and adult learning. Helen is an
accredited trainer for Technology of Participation Methods (Institute
of Cultural Affairs, Australia).

Kevin Balm
Kevin Balm
is a Director of Participative Technologies in Melbourne and Thailand, a
facilitation consultancy firm specialising in participative learning,
planning and decision making processes. He has over 15 years of
experience in designing and leading the facilitation of planning,
review and learning processes. In his primary roles of facilitator,
trainer and consultant he employs a suite of participative process
technologies enabling stakeholders to explore and resolve impediments
to their effectiveness, build capacity within communities and
organisations and conduct studies in knowledge exchange and practice
change. Kevin has worked with agriculture and natural resource
agencies, regional communities, industry associations, and research and
development organisations throughout Australia, Asia and the Pacific.
Kevin is a senior accredited trainer for Technology of Participation
Facilitation Methods and Facilitative Leadership Programme (Institute
of Cultural Affairs, Australia). His role includes oversight of the
training programme and its development.
Mark Butz
Mark Butz is a Director of
Futures By Design in Canberra. Mark has a background in science
and environmental management and is an accomplished facilitator of
stakeholder and community participation and engagement. Mark has
particular expertise in the emerging field of cultural translation –
bridging gaps of communication and understanding between participants
from different political, administrative, technical, scientific and
community spheres. Mark applies his experience in training others in
facilitation, communication, participatory leadership, influencing and
negotiating. Mark is an experienced writer, editor and proof reader of
scientific/technical, quasi-legal, historical/biographical,
geographical, educational and promotional materials.
